Food always brings back fond memories. I come from a HUGE family. My dad has 12 siblings and my mom has 5. I come from a family of 7 girls no boys. We were always doing something together and there was always food involved. The best part is the food was always made from scratch and we knew it was going to be heavenly!
Growing up my family liked to have movie nights. It was typically a musical from the classics. Singing in the rain, Oklahoma, Meet Me in St. Louis, My Fair Lady, Calamity Jane. But our very favorite to watch was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Since there were 7 girls in my family, each of us chose which bride we wanted to be. I always wanted to be Alice or Dorcus. I thought they were so beautiful and their soon to be grooms were so handsome. Sometimes there were little arguments because a couple of us sisters wanted to be the same bride. We eventually worked it out and then we would dance and sing right along with the movie.
With movie night, we always had to have a big bowl of popcorn. It was usually made in an air popper. If we were lucky my mom would make it the old fashioned way how her mom taught her. In a big metal pot on the stove. Some of us would take turns shaking the pot until the popcorn was all nice and plump. Then of course the topping for the popcorn was always a treat. We would use real butter and sprinkle on some salt. Although our very favorite was homemade caramel. My mom would get out her Old Betty Crocker cook book and we would watch and wait until the caramel got all gooey and perfect for our popcorn. When everything was all done we would gather round the BIG silver bowl of popcorn and enjoy being together.
I absolutely LOVE caramel popcorn and have made it several times now that I have my own family.
As I was cooking one day I realized I could come up with my own recipe that would be better for us than the Betty Crocker Caramel. So I came up with this easy 3 ingredient Cinnamon Honey Butter Sauce. Just like regular caramel this sauce gets thick and gooey and is OH SO YUMMY! My children devour it!
Cinnamon Honey Butter Popcorn
10 cups of air popped popcorn
½ cup butter
½ cup local raw honey
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
In a medium saucepan melt butter on medium low.
Once butter is melted add the honey and cinnamon.
Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil.
Continue boiling at a rapid rate while stirring often.
Boil for about 5-6 minutes.
Pour over popcorn and mix until evenly coated.
